St. Lawrence Market

Average Price: $467,025

Situated south of Front St, north of the Gardiner, east of Yonge, and west of Parliament is the historic Toronto neighbourhood of St Lawrence. Once a port and industrial hot spot in the Town of York, today the neighbourhood is home to the busy market, the Esplanade full of cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels, and 10 blocks of Victorian-Era houses and Georgian style red and yellow brick buildings from the 1800’s.

While industry in the area has tapered out, the brick buildings have been converted into condos, lofts, offices, and the Victorian cottages and row-homes have been refreshed and put on the market for affordable price points around the $467,000 mark.

Aside from the stunning architecture including the Flatiron building at Wellington and Front, the main focal point in the region is the market. It is one of the two largest markets in the city (the other being Kensington) and has even been give accolades from Nation Geographic as being the “world’s best food market”. The market consists of two large buildings—one with a weekly farmers’ and antiques market, and the other—a place for retail and dining. It is known as one of the premier places in the city for the purchase of fresh fish, artisan cheeses, gourmet meats, baked goods, and fine produce.

The Esplanade is a street that runs through the St. Lawrence neighbourhood and offers residents everything from shops, services, eateries, and more. Check out hot spots like Bier Markt, the Tilted Kilt, and The Keg.

Parents can take comfort in the number of schools in the area, along with the great outdoor space of David Crombie Park. The St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre, located on the Esplanade features squash courts, a pool, gym, piano room, weight room, and games room for the whole family to enjoy!

Motorists have great access to the Gardiner, Lakeshore, and the DVP while pedestrians are within walking distance to Union Station—making transport in and out of the city quick and easy!
