The Vibe
One of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in Toronto is the small and luxurious area of Yorkville.
Yorkville was named after Toronto’s forerunner, the town of York, and it had the privilege of first being annexed by the new city in 1853. A trip to historic 34 Yorkville Avenue, the old Fire Hall will depict the village’s coat of arms emblazoned with first council member’s initials and trades.
The Homes
Nestled between Avenue Road and Yonge Street, south of Marlbough and north of Bloor Street West, is a vibrant district home to luxury condos, beautiful Victorian homes, hotels, boutiques, salons, dining establishments, and commercial office buildings. The housing and retail spots are intertwined seamlessly, giving this picturesque neighbourhood a unique vibe.
While strolling down the tree-line mature streets, you will find Victorian era homes built principally between 1870-1900. They boast ornate features like decorative brick patterns, gingerbread gables, handsome iron fences, and meticulously kempt gardens.
Aside from the single family homes, you can also find semi-detached houses, townhomes, condo buildings, and even the unique condo-style residence within some of the swankier hotels including The Hazelton, Four Seasons, and The Windsor Arms. If you are looking to make Yorkville home, it will take a cool million or more to lay down your roots.
Who Lives Here?
Yorkville’s demographic is mixed when it comes to singles and families, but all share in the common denominator of affluence. Families with children can make use of Jesse Ketchum School, while secondary students and adults alike can enroll in Roman Catholic alternative and adult school—Monsignor Fraser College. George Brown offers a campus in the heart of Yorkdale for makeup and aesthetics.
What's There To Do?
Greenspace can be found in Ramsden Park, located just off Yonge and features tennis courts, an ice rink, playground, and wading pool. The Village of Yorkville Park on Cumberland offers patrons a place to stop and relax within an architectural garden complete with grove, herb garden, and rock face from the Canadian Shield!
Those looking for shopping and dining will find in along Yorkville, Hazelton, Cumberland and Scollard streets—often incorporated into the Victorian homes, while Hazelton Lanes shopping centre on Avenue Road offers luxury brands with something for everyone. Upscale retailers including Burberry, Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Prada and more can all be found at Bloor-Yorkville. For dining and nightlife options in the area click here!
