The Vibe
One of Toronto’s oldest and most historic areas has recently become one of the city’s newest residential neighbourhoods. Named after the military barracks, Fort York, the new neighbourhood spans 43 acres from Fort York Boulevard in the west, to Bathurst in the east, and between the CPR and Lakeshore north-south.
The Homes
While the land was once primarily used for rail industry and the armoury, it now continues to house members of the Canadian Armed Forces while opening its proverbial gates to other members of the city since its development in 2005. The biggest changes witnessed were the sky-scraping condominium towers offering both residential lodging and commercial spacing in the heart of the city. Modern and elegant condos, complete with balconies and panoramic floor to ceiling windows, have continued to rise in the area (along with row-housing) which is the main style of residence available to new buyers in the area. The average condo retails for just under $400,000 with perks and penthouses coming at a premium.
Who Lives Here?
Parents should take note that there are limited schools located close by, but what Fort York lacks in convenient education, it makes up for with beautiful outdoor spaces for the whole family to enjoy—including Garrison Common, The Waterfront Trail, Coronation Park, Ontario Place, the CNE grounds, and more.
What's There To Do?
Nearby shopping includes the street level shops located along King Street and within Queens Quay—with every additional convenience of the city only a short TTC ride or walk away! Restaurants such as Hunter’s Landing, Citta, and Old York Bar Grill are but a few of the many delicious options for Fork York residents!
What About Commuting?
The area is pedestrian and cyclist friendly and offers TTC service of the Harbourfront streetcar with connections at Union for commuting in, around, and out of the city. Motorists are minutes away from Lakeshore and the Gardiner.
