I truly love going to the National Home Show every year, but this year was different. I was more excited than ever because I am finally a Toronto house owner! Don’t get me wrong, whether you’re a house owner, condo owner, or renter planning for the future, the home show has something for everyone.
Some women spend years daydreaming of their wedding day. In similar style, I spent years daydreaming of the blueprints, designs, and structures of my big day – purchasing a house. That being said, going to the home show this year, I already knew what I wanted/needed but you still have to go “dress” shopping. The home show didn’t alter my mastermind plans, however, it did point me in the direction of some amazing vendors that I may involve in the design and renovations of my house.
Here’s a big shout-out to a few of my favourite vendors from the event:
AWC – All Women Contractors
An all women’s contracting company? Yup! Sign me up. I absolutely love seeing women in trades, so when I stumbled across this vendor I had to find out more. Forget Jack, the Jill of all trades is here and making a name for herself in a male-dominated industry. Betty Lue and her crew have been in the contracting business for over 20 years. This fierce force of women specialize in just about everything, including home renovations, additions, flooring, stair rails, carpet, cabinet marking, baseboards, trim, drywalls, plumbing, HVAC, fences, decks, and the lists doesn’t stop there. If you’re looking for a little extra flare and care from your contractors, check out AWC.
Skyscapes – Patio Flooring & Decor
If you’ve visited any typical balcony/terrace in the city, then it’s likely your feet have made contact with some cold stale concrete. Skyscapes can transform those standard condo balconies into a personal oasis. The structural tiles (eco wooden tiles, plastic Swedish tiles, etc) really clean up the look and make the space more inviting. Plus, they are great for covering up wet stains/general wear and tear. They offer free in-home consultations and a 5-year warranty. If you’re more of a DIY-er, you can order tiles/products online and have them shipped right to your place.
Lumon – Glass Patios
Have you ever dreamed of having an enclosed sunroom/balcony one day but not so much on another day? Lumon can make that dream come true my transforming your balcony from an outdoor space into a more versatile living space by using retractable glass. On those windy, rainy or cool days, keep cozy behind the close glass and easily open up the retractable glass for those warm summer days. Outdoor renovations pending, but I think this might be a great addition my backyard deck.
Rock Bottom Underpinning
I was so impressed with this company, I booked them to come make an assessment on digging out the basement of my house. After a short conversation, I knew these guys meant business. Operating and making people happy since 1999, the crew has more than 35 years of trade industry experience. They make you feel comfortable by walking you through all the steps that will be taken to complete the job. If you’re looking for a company that can offer quality work on basement lowering, underpinning, waterproofing, look up Rock Bottom!
Silent Floor Solutions
Squeaky floors are good for two things… catching teens sneak in or out of the house and waking up sleeping babies. And since I don’t need to worry about either just yet…I need to get the old squeaky floors in my house to be silenced. At the home show, I pleasantly stumbled upon Silent Floor Solutions. I was instantly in awe when they told me that they fix flooring noise without removing the existing floors or ceilings?!? They only work in the areas that noise is processed and they promise no damage to the look of existing flooring. Pretty awesome stuff.
